Working at Long Distance.
You know, there is one thing that I have learned when communicating at a long distance. Ensure that you do not communicate any bad news of missemotion. If you have any financial information of the like to communicate, just communicate the facts. Then get on with the good news.
From a long distance, you cannot wax it up too much. Communicate with feeling and passion. This is how you keep the relationship alive.
If you just feel terrible. Write to your loved one. Today was a great day. I got a lot done and I am going to get even more done tomorrow. Then we can have lots of free time for each other when you get back.

Bad News, Drop It.
Good News, Turn Up The Volume.
